The Boston Celtics have two stars in Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown and a great young coach in Brad Stevens. But that won’t be enough in a competitive Eastern Conference dominated by teams like the Nets, 76ers and Bucks.
The Nets have 3 MVP-caliber players, the Sixers have a major MVP candidate and the Bucks have two-time MVP Giannis Antokounmpo. In short, the Celtics need more talent. Fortunately, they have a lot of interesting commercial articles. Romeo Langford, Aaron Nesmith, Robert Williams, Payton Pritchard and future first and second round picks. These are valuable young players and draft considerations that could also go with Kemba Walker and Marcus Smart for the best talent available.
Here are the Boston Celtics’ top 10 targets before the trade deadline.
10. Harrison Barnes
Season stats: 16.6 PPG, 6.4 PPG, 3.5 PPG, 0.8 PPG, 0.2 BPG.

The Sacramento Kings are fortunate to have DeAaron Fox on their roster, as he is a rare point guard with exceptional passing skills, but outside of him, no one is untouchable. Harrison Barnes is a very capable winger who can defend and shoot. He completes a solid trio that could bring Boston closer to the Nets and the Bucks, who just added P.J. to their roster. Tucker.
Barnes is one of the best 3-D players in the NBA, and he also has the size to be low. Barnes is a versatile defender with championship experience and exactly the kind of player Boston needs to reach the Eastern Conference finals.
9. Kevin Love
Season stats: 5.8 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 1.3 APG, 0.3 SPG, 0.0 BPG
(via Bleacher Report)
For the Boston Celtics, Jason Tatum plays forward alongside Trista Thompson. But Kevin Love is a much bigger forward than Tatum thanks to his size, and he offers more resistance in the paint when paired with Thompson. The combination of Tatum and Jaylen Brown with a sharpshooter like Kevin Love makes Boston a much stronger contender in the East.
With two All-Stars in Brown and Tatum, the Celtics are a consistent team and they deserve it, but Kevin Love can take them to the next level. Love had a disappointing year, but a change of scenery could bring out the best in the former NBA champion.
8. John Collins
Season stats: 18.0 PPG, 7.6 PPG, 1.4 PPG, 0.5 PPG, 1.1 BPG.
(via Lake Show Life)
The Atlanta Hawks are one of the most promising teams in the East, with plenty of depth around star Trey Young. That means they can afford to say goodbye to future star John Collins, who is now more needed in Boston than in Atlanta. Collins fits Brad Stevens’ system because he plays hard and is very good offensively. The lineup with John Collins is very formidable and can make Boston a top 3 team in the East.
Collins will see his minutes in Atlanta gobbled up by defensive star Clint Capela, so he should take his chances with the Celtics. Collins can clear the boards, defend and has a good touch on the floor. This step is logical for both parties.
7. Cylinder lathes
Season stats: 13.1 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 1.0 APG, 0.9 SPG, 3.4 BPG
The Boston Celtics signed Tristan Thompson in Free Agency, which was a great acquisition, but he’s a limited offensive player. These are qualities that don’t fit Miles Turner. Turner can take up space on the court and also score on the inside, making him a good option for Boston to have a dynamic duo at the center position to complement Boston’s excellent rotation.
Turner is also one of the best shot scorers in the NBA in recent years, as he has the size and strength to be a formidable player on both ends of the floor. Boston needs big men and Turner solves the problem right away.
6. LaMarcus Aldridge
Season stats: 13.7 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 1.7 APG, 0.4 SPG, 0.9 BPG
The Boston Celtics have a solid foundation intact with Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown. But you will need more parts. Two years ago they were missing Anthony Davis, and now they have a chance to close the gap with a scorer like LaMarcus Aldridge. Aldridge isn’t the All-NBA player he was in Portland, but he can still score with his feet.
Aldridge can still score 18-20 points on some nights, and his scoring threat makes Boston more difficult defensively. Tatum and Brown may not be the team’s only star offensive players, so Aldridge can take the pressure right off them.
5. Kristaps Porzingis
Season stats: 20.0 PPG, 8.6 PPG, 1.2 PPG, 0.4 PPG, 1.6 BPG.

The Dallas Mavericks have Luka Doncic on their roster, which means they are now looking for a win. The Mavericks can’t settle for a mediocre team, and if that means giving up Porzingis, then they should. A return around Kemba Walker could relieve Doncic of ball handling and add scoring help.
The Celtics need a big man and the Mavericks have one. The Big Three of Tatum, Brown and Porzingis makes Boston a better team than the Bucks and brings them closer to the 76ers. If Mark Cuban wants to get rid of Porzingis, it’s in the Eastern Conference with a team like the Celtics.
4. Andre Drummond
Season stats: £17.5, £13.5, £2.6, £1.6, £1.2.
(via FanSided)
The Boston Celtics need to do their best to add talent around stars Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Andre Drummond is not a current NBA star, but he is a dominant defender who will cause the Celtics immediate problems.
Boston could have a solid base to add shooters around Tatum and Brown, while Drummond could get a cheaper contract in the coming seasons due to lack of interest in the league. The fact that Drummond is available in trade talks means the Celtics should make an immediate attempt to bring in the former All-Star.
3. Grant Jerami
Season stats: 23.2 PPG, 5.1 PPG, 2.8 PPG, 0.7 PPG, 1.1 BPG
credit : USA Today
Jerami Grant has become an All-Star caliber player and has improved his offensive game considerably this season. While Grant is not a big man, he can play forward very well and brings a different kind of versatility to Boston. Grant can defend 4 positions, score alone or from the bench, and play every night.
A line of Tatum, Brown and Grant with Tristan Thompson inside will be very difficult to score or even defend. This deal gives the Celtics another scorer who can average 20 PPG and another defender who is in lockdown mode. Boston needs to acquire Grant as soon as possible and make a deal with the rebuilding Pistons.
2. Nikola Vucevic
Season stats: 24.7 PPG, 11.8 RPG, 3.9 APG, 1.0 SPG, 0.6 BPG
When it comes to the best big men available in the NBA, Nikola Vucevic is the cream of the crop. He can score anywhere, is big down the stretch and has proven he has the aptitude to be a playoff player. For the Celtics, that means he’s… Vucevic is having another good season and with Orlando not threatening anyone in the East, he could be available.
Vucevic will need a huge trade package from Boston, but given how they’ve missed out on big stars in recent years, they can effectively do that by giving Orlando everything they want outside of Tatum and Brown.
1. Karl-Anthony Towns
Season stats: £23.1, £10.2, £4.2, £0.8, £1.6
(via Sports Illustrated)
As good as Vucevic is, Towns gives Boston the most consistent Big Three for the next decade. Towns is only 25 years old and is a player who could become a franchise player for the Celtics. Towns has had another double-double season, and he has no weaknesses in his all-around game.
Towns is a big man who can take Boston to the next level because he doesn’t hinder the offense with his skills while improving the defense. The great trio of Tatum, Brown and Towns will likely lead Boston to the Eastern Conference Finals and create a title contender for at least the next 7-8 years.
