Derrick Rose has been a commercial target for the Los Angeles Lakers the past two seasons.
Like it or not, the NBA’s best team, the Los Angeles Lakers, wants to get better.
Last season, the Lakers allegedly asked the Detroit Pistons if they would trade former Chicago Bulls playmaker Derrick Rose, but were flatly refused.
Brian Windhorst spoke with the Pistons and gave a solid answer to the trade rumor:
No, there’s no chance. He has a contract for next year at a good number. As far as I know, when the Lakers called the Pistons and expressed interest in Derrick Rose’s business, they said we appreciate your call, but we’re not selling it. Dwayne Casey likes him. We think it will be important for us next year. He just wasn’t available.
This report has put trade talks on hold until 2020, but with the NBA trade deadline on the 25th, it’s time to move on. As March approaches, the Lakers’ second pass is an opportunity as Los Angeles looks to strengthen their backcourt.
The NBA’s analytics network recently reignited the trade fire with three trade packages that are within the Pistons’ capabilities, bringing Rose’s name back to the forefront of trade rumors.
Rosa recovers after ACL injury
Rose continues to write her legacy in the league after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in the first round of the playoffs in 2012.
Although injuries took away the explosiveness that defined his early success, when he won the league’s MVP, Rookie of the Year and three All-Star nominations, Rose remained an integral part of the Pistons’ rotation.
Coming off the bench, Rose averaged 15.3 points, 5.4 assists, 2.3 rebounds and one steal in 24 minutes per game. Detroit could get rid of some assets as they remain the worst team in the league with a record of 1-7 at the start of the season.
Rose also showed flashes of her old self. With the Minnesota Timberwolves, Rose scored the highest score of her career, 50 points, against Utah Jazz in 2018. His last 40-point game was seven years and 227 days ago, the fifth longest streak in NBA history.
Rose’s performance was recognized with the NBA Awards’ Moment of the Year award at the House of Greatness, in part because of the emotional charge surrounding her rebound.
Congratulations to @drose for winning the Moment of the Year award at the #NBAAwards!

It was a brilliant moment in Rose’s career. The then 30-year-old was in the midst of a career transition and learned to be a veteran on the team and take charge when the time was right.

Office free of roses next low season
Although the Pistons don’t look favorable on any business Rose is involved in, the 32-year-old goalie’s contract expires after this season.
The Los Angeles and Philadelphia 76ers have looked to him in the past, while the Bulls may also need an experienced player in the backcourt.
Rose is still producing at a high level and will likely be able to find another team if Detroit decides to fire him. In the next off-season, it will be interesting to see what organization shows the residents of Chicago.
