Following those two teams, the movement up and down the rankings, as well as in and out of the Top 25, was approximately what one would anticipate following a week in which nine rated teams, including four in the top 10, lost.
34 ranked clubs have lost in the first five weeks of the season, the most in poll history.
After a 51-14 road victory against previously undefeated Maryland, Iowa leapfrogged Penn State to claim third place. The Hawkeyes are ranked No. 1 for the first time since 2015. Penn State stayed No. 4 after defeating Indiana 24-0 at home.
5th place Cincinnati has its highest ranking since Brian Kelly’s 2009 Bearcats were ranked No. 4 in the first week of November after a 24-13 road victory over Notre Dame.
The top ten include Oklahoma, Ohio State, Oregon, Michigan, and BYU.
Clemson’s 19-13 home victory against previously undefeated Boston College failed to sway enough voters to keep the Tigers in the Top 25. Their 107-week run at the top of the rankings has come to an end. The Tigers were last unranked in the week of October 5, 2014.
They are 15 points behind San Diego State and one place out of the Top 25.
