Following the recent death of John Huber, many of his colleagues and other professional wrestlers pay tribute to social media. Huber, who fought on television as Luke Harper in the WWE and Brody Lee in the AEW, died Saturday at the age of 41 from a lung problem. The news came as a shock to everyone who knew Huber, but also to wrestlers all over the world. AEW’s Cody, who played Huber in his last match, also paid tribute to him with a message on Twitter.
Losing Brody Lee leaves me stunned, he says. It was clear that he was a very gifted athlete and storyteller, and his gift beyond that was to challenge you, and he set the bar very high. The first time I met him… …it became even clearer that he was a family man and a first-class man. I have to share his last number… I need his last match. It is an honor, a privilege and an experience of such cruel humiliation. Thanks, Big Rig. We will honor you and your family.

Bray Wyatt, who worked with Huber for many years in the Wyatt family stables, has also published a long tribute to Instagram. Including a series of photos of the two together, here’s what Wyatt wrote about the man he held the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship with.
Wyatt’s message has been read in its entirety:
You were my best friend. My brother, my partner, my Terry Gordy. We changed the whole game because we didn’t want to do it any other way than our own. We were always at our best when we were a team, I think we both knew that. We fought like brothers because we were them. I’m so… damn angry. It doesn’t have to be like that, it has to be like us, the big, bald, useless Wyatt families who walked around school gymnastics in our 70s. Where are we going now? What if I know I’ll never hear your condescending sarcasm when I get in the car. I miss… …so much. I would do anything to relive our worst moments. I can’t believe you’re gone.
I’m really sorry, brother. I’m really sorry. You’ll always be a part of me whether I like it or not, but it’s not the same without you, and I hope Amanda really knows I’m here not only to say that, but because I love her too. I’ll make sure your son knows what a great person you’ve been. Not the legends that people tell, but the real you that few people see. I promise I’ll put him in black matches when he’s old enough, like I promised. I’m in a lot of pain. I’d like a chance to say goodbye. But it’s Saturday, and you know what that means…. Some of the biggest wrestling stars also mourn Gruber’s departure. Among them, Hulk Hogan, who commented on the news on Sunday morning, writing: Completely devastated by the loss of John Luke/Brody, such a talented and extraordinary man! Send my brother.
Mick Foley also talked about Huber and wrote: I just heard the news that John Huber died…. on a terrible day for wrestlers. Two years ago, my son Huey dressed up as Luke Harper for Halloween. He was an excellent worker and a devoted father. A great loss for anyone who loves wrestling.
Jim Ross, AEW commentator and former WWE celebrity, paid tribute to this initiative with a simple message that Brokenheart reads. There’s still a good man in heaven today.
Chris Jericho from AEW: The elite wrestlers all posted a picture of themselves and Huber, as well as other WWE stars from five years ago. Everyone in the picture is wearing the personalized t-shirts of Luke Harper, because WWE does not sell official t-shirts. Jericho’s headline says it’s Saturday. You know what that means… Behind the scenes in Mexico in 2015. Brody was annoyed that he didn’t have his own dealer’s jersey, so one of the brothers had one made in his honour. We all went after this guy because everyone loved him. A great man!
Huber’s colleagues from the WWE era also pay tribute to him. Natalia Neidhart writes that I am very happy to learn of the death of @ThisBrodieLee, who was a dear friend to many of us. He was an extraordinary husband and a devoted father. His love for his family was immeasurable. Send prayer and love to the families of Amanda, Brody, Nolan and John Huber.
Mustafa Ali also says that the loss of someone like John is the source of so much pain. But everywhere I look, I see a whole industry showing him respect and love. That alone shows what an incredible man he was. #RIPBrodieLee.
And WWE legend Edge, who has just returned to the company this year, has also posted a message of respect online. He writes it’s terrible. John was just… awesome. A great man, funny, immensely talented, warm, family-oriented. All our love, thoughts and warmth for his family.
At the age of 41 Huber leaves us far too early, but the reactions in the wrestling world clearly show how much he was loved. The legacy he left in wrestling will be remembered forever. RIP John Huber.
