Veteran actor K. Thomas Howell will “trample some zombies” in The Walking Dead. The star of “Hitcher and the Outsiders” appeared as an anonymous hill guard in episode 9 of “Stradivarius,” the first episode of The Walking Dead directed by Howell’s friend and former co-star from “Southland,” Michael Cudlitz. In the episode of season 9, set six years after the disappearance of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), Howell’s character turns to Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Siddiq (Avi Nash) to report the fate of the injured Rosita Espinosa (Christian Serratos).
After sharing a video referencing a trip to Georgia to film The Walking Dead, Howell confirmed his return with a selfie taken at the Alexandria safe house. In the background of Howell’s photo is the dilapidated windmill in the community on the first day of filming for the final season of The Walking Dead.

Howell’s surprise appearance in season 9 of “The Walking Dead” came from the fact that the role “needed someone who knew how to drive and act,” Cudlitz said in a 2018 interview, “We had to clarify it with gadgets, we had to clarify it with insurance to make sure someone could drive, so it fell more into the world of gadgets. It’s not every day that someone can do things like drive and talk”.
Howell’s experience with horses and his friendship with Cudlitz earned him the role of “resident at the top of the hill” in his directorial debut with his opposite number in Southland.

“I knew my buddy was in town, so I jokingly said, ‘Hey, I have someone who can do that. “Our producer Tom Luce said he would contact Angela [Kang] and if it worked, he would bring him in,” Cudlitz said at the time. “I said, ‘I’m just starting out as a director and I’d love to have you.’” He said, “Mikey, I have a question for you. Am I going to die?” And I said, “No.” He said, “So I can come back one day, right? I said, “Yes.” He said, “I’m in.”
The Walking Dead returns on February 28 with six bonus episodes from season 10, featuring guest stars Robert Patrick, Hilarie Burton Morgan, Okea Eme-Aquari, James Devoti, Miles Mussenden and Rodney Rowland making their debut on The Walking Dead. The final episode of the 24 episode season of the zombie drama will air for the first time on AMC later this year.
AMC+ subscribers can watch the premiere of season 10C of “Sweet Home” in streaming a week before the television premiere, which begins on Sunday, February 21. Follow creator @CameronBonomolo on Twitter for all things TWD.
