There’s another competitor in the gaming phone market, but if the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel is the first of its kind, reality doesn’t come out of nowhere. Lenovo is the company that sells Motorola phones, so it’s no longer interested in mobile phones, and the Lenovo Legion is now a line of gaming PCs and PCs – so this smartphone is a logical marriage of those product offerings.

The Legion Phone Duel is probably the best gaming phone we’ve tried in 2020. We say that based on the fact that Lenovo has created a gadget without many of the problems we’ve seen on other gaming phones with a focus on mundane features while checking all the boxes for gaming phones. It features the high-end Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset available at the time of shipment, paired with 12 or 16GB of RAM, a 144-GHz AMOLED display for distinctive tones and fluid gameplay, and dual perspective speakers for stunning sound. It also has a long-lasting battery, so you can play for a long time without any trouble.

What makes a Lenovo Legion phone a monster?

All of these features make the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel comparable to other gaming phones, but it’s the non-gaming aspects that put it above the rest. While most phones designed for multitasking gamers have issues with functionality and performance outside of gaming, this device is as much a regular smartphone as it is a gaming gadget. The Lenovo Legion Phone Duel hits more modestly than many other gaming smartphones, and the power button sits nicely on the right side, so it’s not hard to reach if you need to wake up the phone, making it generally preferable to its competitors as a one-handed gadget. The product also looks clean; while it’s not exactly stock Android, it’s pretty much the same, has lots of Google apps, and bloatware is frowned upon.

The Lenovo Duel Legion Phone is the first phone to be paired with 90W fast charging, at the expense of the 16GB RAM form factor – it uses both USB-C ports on the phone, and it doesn’t take more than thirty minutes for the phone to be pulled out of the vacuum. There is also a more reasonable model of the phone with 12GB of RAM that can be charged with up to 65W. A major problem with the Legion Phone Duel is thankfully something that Lenovo should fix with patches: Programming problems. They ranged from interesting, like the untranslated text of the Legion game app, to annoying, like a warning message sometimes in an unacceptable and difficult to understand tone, to a real problem, turning off the phone most of the time without a clear explanation.

The Duel Phone’s price is also considerably high for a gaming phone – it’s probably the most expensive phone on the market, and it’s undercut by a few phones like the Nubia Red Magic 5G and the Black Shark that have similar specs. Sure, the Legion Phone beats it by a few lengths, but some may think it’s not worth the extra price. Here and there, the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel is a bit of a mole in the gaming phone market: It manages without some of the problems that other gaming phones have, but then several issues arose. Overall, it’s incredibly good for gaming and is a bold first effort for the Lenovo Legion phone pen.
