Jared Goff in the 2020 Patriots game.

The Detroit Lions have agreed to send Matthew Stafford out of town. With this decision comes a new quarterback and a new start for Jared Goff’s team.

Goff comes to the Lions with a bruised ego, given the way things went in Los Angeles. The Rams wanted to get rid of the quarterback and when they switched to Stafford they found a willing business partner in the Lions. Now Goff is on the move. While many people think he’s just a defector or a guy on an albatross contract, it’s clear that Goff has made a name for himself with what he can still do in the league.

Jeff Darlington of ESPN tweeted after the exchange that he is not giving up on Goff doing big things and that he will be in the playoffs very soon. The reason? His prodigious talent.

It’s just a prediction, so don’t worry, but I’m just announcing it, and I could be wrong, but that doesn’t matter: Jared Goff will be the starting QB for the playoffs for the next two years.

I’m one of those people who can’t forget their skills. Jared Goff led the Rams to a 54-51 victory over the Chiefs two years ago. He threw for 413 yards, 4 TD and 0 INT. I know he’s had a few bad ones. But, man, I think my glass is only half full. I think Goff has what it takes to win in the NFL.

The upside for Goff is that he will end up in Detroit with Brad Holmes, Aubrey Pleasant and Ray Agnew. With a big turnover in recent weeks and the arrival of many Rams players to the Lions, Goff will find guys who know his talent and will play a big role for him.

Of course, Darlington isn’t saying where Goff might end up in the playoffs over the next two seasons, but it’s hard to imagine Brad Holmes dropping out so quickly, so the implication could be that the Lions might be better after this deal than some are attributing to them.

Goff will have a chance to prove the Hatters wrong and get revenge on the Rams in the future, and it’s understandable that he’s motivated to do so.

It’s clear that Goffe has talent, so it will be interesting to see if he can live up to this prediction.

Jared Goff ready for another start with the Lions.

Last week, there was talk of Stafford wanting a fresh start in Detroit. The same goes for Goff, who has gotten over his public divorce with the Rams and is ready to make a fresh start and prove what he can do for the Lions.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN said Goff is highly motivated to prove his talent to the new team and remind them what he is capable of.

What I do know, after the coverage of the past few days, is that the Stafford Rams are out:

That’s what Stafford wanted, a chance to maximize the talent with McVay.

The Rams decided, but knew that Goff’s deal was just a big setback.

Goff was ready for a new beginning, the Rams were waiting for him, eager to show him what he was capable of.

A motivated Goff would be great for the Lions right now, who need to squeeze everything they can out of him after a big trade. It would be phenomenal for the team to see Goff come in and prove he can handle the job. The team added a pick-and-roll tackle, but if Goff could have proved the Hatters wrong, it would have mattered.

What the Lions will get from Jared Goff.

Detroit not only gets two first- and third-round doubles, but also a quarterback who played in the Super Bowl two years ago. Goff, himself a first-round pick of Cal starting in 2016, was a solid player who won many big games in his career with the rugged NFC West. To date, he has thrown 107 touchdowns, 55 interceptions and 18,171 yards and has been a Pro Bowler twice in 2017 and 2018.

Goff clearly had a better defense than Stafford, which helped him a lot. Still, it’s hard to ignore some of the impressive victories he’s managed to pull off. Just after the season, the Rams won an important away game against the Seattle Seahawks, in which Goff was forced into action due to a thumb injury. He delivered a solid performance when the team needed him the most.

It’s clear that Goff is ready to go to a new team, and he’ll likely prove himself quickly.
