When competing in foreign waters, Team USA has always had an extremely strong lineup. Many great NBA players, including Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Carmelo Anthony, have all contributed to the team’s success throughout the years.

Due to injury, Team USA was unable to send its top athletes to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. They remained, however, the team to beat since they were still surrounded by the NBA’s best and up-and-coming players. In retrospect, Gregg Popovich’s team had a rocky preseason schedule leading up to the tournament, but its captain, Kevin Durant, was instrumental in turning things around for Team USA.

The squad just recovered its momentum after winning the Olympic games for the fourth time in a row. Along the road, they defeated other elite teams from Spain and Australia to reach the final game. Durant led the way with 29 points and six rebounds in the gold medal game against France, leading the Warriors to an 87-82 win over the European superpower.

After another outstanding performance in Tokyo, the former NBA MVP has firmly established his place among the GOAT All-Time Team USA players. I’d place him at the top of that loaded list of talent since he’s already made a significant contribution to the team’s international success over the last decade.

Kevin Durant now has three Olympic gold medals, matching Anthony for the most in team history, thanks to their recent victory against France. He has always done well in championship games, scoring 30 points in each of his two gold medal matchups against Spain and Serbia, respectively, in 2012 and 2016.

Durant also became Team USA’s all-time top scorer with 435 points in 22 appearances in the Olympics. In their group stage match against the Czech Republic, he just eclipsed Melo’s current total of 336 points in 31 games played. According to Bleacher Report, Durant has also emerged as the all-time leader in free throws made, three-pointers made, and three-point attempts for Team USA.

Not to mention the fact that he is scoring baskets at a high rate, with a 50.3 percent shooting percentage from beyond the arc in the Olympics. Aside from the aforementioned event, Durant was also an MVP in the 2010 FIBA World Cup, when his team defeated the host nation Turkey in the championship match.

Certainly, MJ, Kobe, LeBron, and Melo have all performed well for Team USA throughout their time with the national team. Kevin Durant, on the other hand, seems to have hit a new level following a spectacular performance in Tokyo, when he set almost every statistical record in franchise history. Not to mention the fact that he is just 32 years old and still has a chance to win his fourth gold medal in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

After many years of wearing the blue, red, and white, Kevin Durant has unquestionably succeeded in bringing pride and honor to his nation. Indeed, he has nothing more to prove on the international scene, and anything further he does for Team USA will be frosting on the cake for the national team’s All-Time GOAT.
