Another month before Batwoman’s debut in Part 2 and CW’s hit series is scheduled for mid-January. As soon as the show comes back, he’ll do things differently. Javisia Leslie plays the lead role in the show after Kate Kane has left Ruby Rose. Leslie will play the role of Ryan Wilder, a brand new character created for the series that will also go down in history as Batman’s first canonical black incarnation. Although much is still unknown about the second season, fans are excited about both the DC Comics legend that will be making money in the second season and the new stories being told along the way.

If you want to prepare for Batwoman Season 2 (outside the first season of HBO Max), there is a wide selection of existing comics to get you started. Some are directly related to characters or guns that should be related to Batwoman Season 2, while others simply carry all the energy of a reigning superhero. Here are eight episodes we recommend you to review before (and possibly during) the second season of Batwoman.

Bat: Renaissance

The first – and perhaps the most important – recommendation was Batwoman’s last solo race, which took place in the context of the revival of the Renaissance in 2017. Especially the first eighteen songs contain almost all performances of Safia Sohail, which Shivani Guy will perform in the second season of Batman. The Renaissance is immersed in the tortured history and romance of Safia and Kate Kane, and how Safia acts as the leader of the many death weapons.

Although it is clear that Batwoman will take some creative liberties with Safia’s live debut – especially by never interacting with Kate before, but giving her some kind of rivalry with Alice – Rebirth Running remains the best indicator of what fans can expect from her performance.

Chronicles of Batman

Another villain who has been confirmed in season 2 – and whose comic story is much more twisted – is Victor Tsass, played by Alex Morph. Even if you know Tzash from his other live-action appearances in films like Gotham, Batman Begins and Birds of Prey, there are a number of comics with him worth reading – including the Batman Chronicle series, which began in 1995. The third episode of the series explores Mr. Tsash’s secret origins and tells of the unconventional and twisted way he was motivated to become obsessed with counting a serial killer.

The Batman Chronicles offers a unique context for who Zash is and a narrative and aesthetic approach to Gotham City, both of which feel incredibly relevant and timeless.

Batman: Silence

And, of course, there’s Batman’s big unanswered question about Tommy Elliot (Gabriel Mann), who revealed Bruce Wayne’s identity in an attempt to make Wayne Enterprises appear in the final scene of Batman’s first film. While this story will undoubtedly take a different form in the absence of Kate, Tommy is still a threat in the show – which makes this the perfect time for a visit (or repeat visit) to Batman : Silence! Silence! Silence! Silence! Silence! Silence! Silence!

The 2002-2003 plot plunged into an epic and unexpected rivalry between Tommy and Bruce, while Hush undoubtedly wreaked havoc in Gotham City along the way. This kind of story, which fans have been talking about for almost 20 years, makes the second season even more exciting to watch.

Batgirl: Renaissance

(Photo: DC Comics)

Almost every book about the bat family is likely to contain something interesting for Batwoman fans – but the latest issue of Batgirl, to be released in issue 50 this fall, stands out. Initially, number 50 was the first canonical appearance of Ryan Wilder’s comic strip, in a moving and unexpected scene that showed its dynamics with Barbara Gordon.

Plus, the Rebirth Run Batgirl package is full of epic things for fans, Barbara’s wanderings around the world, unique villains and lots of hard arguments about what saving your city really means in modern times. There’s also a big Luke Fox on the run.

DC bombs

For the whole fan community, their first encounter with Batman Kate Kane was in the world of DC Bombshells – and even if Kate wasn’t in the show, there’s still a good reason to see the show. The comic, which includes both DC Bombshells and the sequel to the Bombshells United series, is inspired by the eponymous product line from the 1940s, which was redefined as pin-ups by the heroes of DC during the Second World War. For Kate, it meant leading an A-League baseball team called the Batgirls and inspiring the masses to victory.

Bombshells is probably one of the best showcases in which you can still see the influence of Batwoman’s cloak, which only seems more relevant because Ryan will also inspire many people. What’s more, the series is a visual and narrative delight, especially when you see how the menagerie of DC’s heroes has been reconstructed at such a different time.

Batman outside: Renaissance

Another interesting study of the cloak of Batman – although from a completely opposite era – is that of modern Batman that extends beyond the horizon. In recent years the series has fallen into the cybropunk chronology of Future’s End and presents Batwoman Beyond, the mysterious and futuristic image of Kate Kane. In the course of the ark it turned out that Batwoman Beyond was actually Helenna Grayson, the daughter of vigilante Dick Grayson.

It is true, Batwoman is a coat that has yet to be adopted by many different characters, which made the idea of Ryan to take over the role of Cate a little controversial for some. But Batman Beyond shows how much he can work – and the deep, cool things he can say.

Wolverine brand new

(Photo: Marvel Entertainment)

On the other side of the Big Two, the brand new Marvel Wolverine has some interesting similarities with what Batman fans have seen so far. The series, which runs from 2015 to 2018, follows the adventures of Laura Kinney, the daughter of the first Wolverine, when she decides to take her coat back. During the race, which lasted more than thirty editions, Laura was confronted with cosmic animals, viral killers and other clone sisters she didn’t know, all with the tenacity and style that fans have come to love.

The idea of taking on the legacy of a character with an established reputation seems oddly common between Batman and the brand new Wolverine. Cate took on the role of Bruce’s protector in Gotham City, and Ryan now does the same in Cate’s absence. The series also includes some of the best action films and heartbreaking comic strips of recent years.

Naomi

(Photo: DC)

And finally, we have Naomi, a new series that seems to be a brighter but deeper compliment for what fans expect from Batwoman’s season 2. The series follows Naomi McDuffy, a teenage girl from a small town in Oregon whose life was shattered when she learned she was a superhero. In particular, Naomi was born to superpowerful parents on an alternative earth devastated by an environmental disaster, and was quickly sent to earth to stop an evil super villain from hunting her down.

Although Naomi’s story is undoubtedly more cosmic than Batman’s, the adventure of becoming a hero – and putting her heart into everything she does – is strangely similar to what we know about Ryan Wilder. It wouldn’t hurt either if in the future she could stand next to Ryan if she ended up getting her own show on The CW.
