The Cleveland Browns have made their final call on the blockbuster trade that sent wide receiver Julio Jones to the Atlanta Falcons for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and a 2018 second round draft pick.

After wavering for most of the week, the Browns finally made a deal that will make them at least look like contenders in 2016. The team is expected to acquire Atlanta’s first-round pick in 2016 and a third-round pick in 2017 for the rights to acquire wide receiver Julio Jones. The deal leaves the Browns with five picks in the first two rounds of the 2016 draft.

The Cleveland Browns are willing to surrender a king’s ransom in order to land one of the NFL’s biggest stars. The Browns will trade the 15th overall pick in the draft to Atlanta for the No. 6 overall selection, according to a report on Tuesday. In exchange, Cleveland will give up the Atlanta’s third- and fifth-round picks in this months draft. The Browns are trading from the sixth overall pick to move up, according to the report.

The Cleveland Browns were considered a candidate to acquire receiver Julio Jones from the Atlanta Falcons, but a blockbuster deal will not happen.

As the rumors swirl, Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com put the rumors to rest in her latest question and answer column.

While I’ve heard many people suggest a Beckham for Jones, it won’t happen. The Browns are happy to have the 28-year-old Beckham back after he tore his ACL this season and are not interested in trading the 32-year-old receiver, whose base salary is $15.3 million this season and $11.513 million in each of the next two years.

The Browns are happy with their receiving corps and have no intention of changing it with a big move like this.

As Cabot notes, the problem is that Jones is due a huge salary next season. Plus, the Browns don’t need another pass catcher demanding the ball, as they have Beckham, Landry and other talents like Rashard Higgins, Anthony Schwartz and Donovan Peoples-Jones on the roster.

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Browns were at one point one of the favorites to acquire Jones.

Julio Jones is an intriguing talent for anyteam.

Jones is 32 years old and has had a season in which he missed seven games due to injury. Still, the prospect of getting a seven-time Pro Bowler is something most teams will look into. He finished the season after just one year with 1,394 yards, six touchdowns and an average of 92.9 yards per game.

He was twice the league’s best receiver, and his 95.5 yards per game is the best total in NFL history, according to ESPN. His record includes seven Pro Bowl victories and two First-Team All-Pro appearances.

The Falcons said they will take calls from Jones to evaluate the market.

It’s one of those things, if you do everything right in an organization, you have to listen when people call, with every player, Fontenot told Fox 5. Firstly, we are in a difficult situation with the ceiling, so the circumstances are no surprise to us. We knew the circumstances we were in. So far, our administration has done an excellent job of putting us in a position to manage the cap, but we still have a lot of work to do.

So when teams call us about a player, we have to listen, weigh the pros and cons, decide what’s best for the organization, and treat everything with understanding.

Browns, Andrew Berry were aggressive in theformation.

With Andrew Berry heading the front office, the Browns are working hard to build a championship-ready roster, and a name like Jadeveon Clowney is proof of that.

In one of his first press conferences, Berry made it clear that he would at least listen to almost any proposal and admitted that many trade talks were hollow.

Andrew Berry, CEO of the #Browns, talks about what Howie Roseman learned:
1) Aggressiveness in all areas of player acquisition, be it trades, the free agent market, the draft
2) The value of knowing the locker room on a personal level
3) The difference between amassing talent and team building.

I’m not going to talk about any particular player in terms of trade opportunities, trade talks or anything like that, Berry said when asked about Beckham. I worked under Howie Roseman, probably the strongest trader in the league, and it’s something where you’re always picking up the phone and listening to everything that’s going on at the table.

In the NFL, most trade talks turn out to be hollow anyway. But as I said, we will take every opportunity to improve the composition of the team, by all means.
