Barcelona fans have made their views on the proposed European Super League clear by hanging a banner in front of Camp Nou to protest against the new competition.

The Catalans are one of 12 clubs that have agreed to form a new separatist league, but the decision has infuriated fans around the world. The banner reads as follows: Barcelona is our life, not your plaything. No, to play in the Super League.

PUNKART ALL CAMP WELL!

El @FCBarcelona és la nostra vida, no la vostra joguina. Super League NO! #SuperLeague #FCBlive

Barca fans are not the only clubs protesting the plan. Liverpool fans questioned Anfield after the announcement that the new league is disgusting and shameful.

This is embarrassing. It’s disgusting.

Manchester United fans also hung a banner outside Old Trafford to show their disapproval, while a group of Manchester City fans called for their banners to be removed from the Etihad Stadium after the Super League announcement, the Manchester Evening News reported.

The Super League is due to start in August, but the idea has provoked fierce reactions from fans, former players and commentators, and it remains to be seen whether it will be implemented as planned.

Disappointment in assailant’s voice

Former Barcelona players have also joined the growing Super League conviction. Dani Alves spoke out against the idea in an emotional message on Twitter on Monday night.

Former Barca striker and TV presenter Gary Lineker has spoken out on the controversial issue, challenging the Catalans to prove that the club’s (and not just the club’s) motto is still valid.

Come on @FCBarcelona, you guys are so much better than this. That’s not what you’re talking about. You are the Més Que Un club. Prove it’s still true.

Lineker also praised reigning European champions Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga club confirmed on Monday that it is not involved in plans for a new Super League. Lineker tweeted: A real football club. Bavaria will be viewed with great favor by history.

Orders for cold feet?

A wave of opposition to the European Super League has led to some of its 12 founding members withdrawing, Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol reports.

Now there are disagreements among the apostate clubs, and some feel left out, and they begin to be afraid. The source was also quoted as saying: That’s not what we signed up for.

It is not known if Barcelona is one of those teams, but Florentino Perez, president of Real Madrid and intended president of the new Super League, said the Catalan giants did not need to be persuaded to join the breakaway league.

Barcelona is going through a difficult economic situation, Laporta understood and accepted it immediately, like all the big clubs in the world, he told TV station El Chiringuito. This Super League is going to save the entire football world. It was not difficult to convince Joan Laporta, because he has a responsibility to his club and his fans.

Barca have debts of more than $1.5 billion, but it was confirmed on Monday that the founding clubs will receive €3.5 billion, which will be used exclusively to support their infrastructure investment plans and offset the effects of the COWID pandemic.
