We have a new trailer for the courier. While many big flashy movies have been delayed into 2020, this one has managed to slip away a bit, despite a cast that includes Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange, The Imitation Game) and Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards, The Marvelous Miss Maisel). But after being delayed several times, Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions are finally preparing a spy/thriller to be released next March. And this new trailer gives us a glimpse of Cumberbatch’s role as a spy in the 1960s.

The trailer begins in London around 1960. We see Benedict Cumberbatch’s character, Greville Wynn, a grumpy salesman who gets an unexpected call from some government spies. Because he is only a civilian, the KGB has less reason to suspect him as a spy. As such, he is recruited to do just that: spy on the Russian government. The stakes are high as tensions rise between Russia and the rest of the world. This distraught salesperson helps to gather important information. And yes, it is based on a true story. He looks intense, and like a good star for Cumberbatch, who gets a chance to show off his skills.

The cast also includes Merab Ninidze (Nowhere in Africa, Jupiter’s Moon) and Jesse Buckley (I’m Thinking of Ending It, Chernobyl). The film is directed by Dominic Cook (Chesil Beach) and written by Tom O’Connor (Hitman’s Bodyguard). The thriller would be released in August 2020. It was first presented at the Sundance Film Festival under the title Iron Bark. The studio decided to change that before release. When the date was announced in August, Howard Cohen and Eric D’Arbeloff, co-chairs of Roadside Attractions, stated they were convinced it would be a must-see for film fans.

Things are moving much slower than the studio expected in terms of returning to theaters. But viewers will want to see Benedict Cumberbatch in his spying activities. It won’t be until March, not until August. However, the box-office potential may still be limited as most of the films have not performed well in recent months.

A true spy thriller, The Courier is the story of unassuming British businessman Greville Wynne (Benedict Cumberbatch). He was recruited into one of the greatest international conflicts in history. British MI6 and an American CIA agent (Rachel Brosnahan) bring him in, and Winn enters into a secret and dangerous partnership with Soviet officer Oleg Penkovsky (Merab Ninidze) to provide crucial information needed to prevent a nuclear confrontation and defuse the Cuban missile crisis.

Benedict Cumberbatch is currently working on Doctor Strange in Multiverse Madness and resumes his role as Supreme Wizard in Miracles. Meanwhile, Rachel Brosnahan is working on season 4. The season of the great Miss Maisel. The 19th. In March, The Courier will be released in cinemas by Roadside Attractions. Don’t forget to check the trailer itself.
