The Oakland Raiders are making some changes to their offensive line for the 2015 season. Last year, Richie Incognito was a little out of place as the starting left guard. The team signed veteran Kelechi Osemele to a four-year contract extension, and is also bringing in Rodney Hudson from the Kansas City Chiefs, who will start at left guard. It will be interesting to see how the line plays as a whole.

Richie Incognito was a central figure in the most publicized bullying scandal in NFL history. The N.F.L. and the N.F.L. Players Association worked together to develop and test a program to help players overcome their anger and resolve their issues. However, Incognito was not one of the first players to sign up, but he did not turn his back on the program.

HENDERSON, Nev. — … reasons? Yes, Richie Incognito has several reasons for wanting to return to the left guard position with the Las Vegas Raiders at age 38 after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 2 of the season. And they are exactly what you would expect. The injury shook me up, but I knew all along I would be back, Incognito said after his first week of OTAs with the Raiders. When I had surgery and it wasn’t as bad as we thought, I knew I just had to train, rehab and come back stronger. I had surgery in November and since November I’ve been locked in the gym, just running, working out, lifting weights, and yes, it’s one of those times when I didn’t want to get on the field because of an injury. I had such a long career and I wanted to come back and play a few more years with the Raiders. That makes sense. But remember: Of course, the oft maligned Incognito has kept his nose clean since the Raiders took a chance and convinced him to retire for a year in the spring of 2019. But he also missed a lot of time. Incognito has played in 14 of the Raiders’ 32 games over the past two seasons. And now the Raiders are not only counting on Incognito being available, but Las Vegas needs a 14-year veteran to be a calming influence on a rebuilt offensive line. The team that traded center (Rodney Hudson), right guard (Gabe Jackson) and right guard (Trent Brown) this season. The presumably expensive offensive line of left guard Colton Miller, Incognito, Hudson, Jackson and Brown played just three episodes together last season. Now the Raiders have a potential line ahead of them with Miller and Incognito at left guard, Andre James at center, Denzelle Good – who replaced Incognito at left guard last season – at right guard and Alex Leatherwood, a first-round draft pick, at right guard. How about the Raiders offensive line of LT Colton Miller (no photo), LG Richie Incognito, C Andre James, RG Denzell Hood (covered in ’72) and RT Alex Leatherwood? pic.twitter.com/u709FwTlqR – Paul Gutierrez (@PGutierrezESPN) May 27, 2021 Incognito Wise comes in. It was great to be here for a few years, to be a leader for these kids, he said. It’s great. We had a very good experience in the room. But it’s my job to support these guys, to keep them hungry and humble, and when we’re on the field on Sunday, to play as a unit, to go out there and really challenge people. I think [offensive line coach Tom] Cable wants to have a very physical offensive line, and that’s my role. I set the pace every day during training. I bring it every day, I go to the games, I mix things and make people listen, and that energy is contagious. Yeah, even with his not-so-clean past. And maybe partly because of that. But as previously mentioned, Incognito, a third-round pick of the Rams in 2005, has had nothing but positive effects on the young Raiders. I’ve voted for Richie Incognito as captain every year since I’ve been in the league, said third-year defender Clelin Ferrell. In my first two years in the league, I voted for him as captain every time because I think a lot of things about Richie can be misinterpreted. He always goes to practice, doesn’t take a day off unless coach says so ….. This year he will truly be a leader of character and the kind of hinge that everyone will be talking about: Okay, they have a dog. Incognito came to the Raiders on a proven one-year, $1.03 million contract in 2019 that was rewarded with a two-year, $12.7 million deferment with $5 million guaranteed. Fifteen days later, he was re-signed to a one-year, $2.12 million contract with $1.1 million guaranteed. A year ago, the OTAs were wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic. And after the Raiders, like everyone else in the NFL, announced in the spring that they would not participate in the voluntary offseason game, 83 of the 89 players on the Raiders’ 90-man roster practiced last Wednesday. It’s a competitive advantage for us to be here and working now, Incognito said. We’re a young team, we’re learning a new defense. Offensively, we’re trying to refine our tools to be more productive, score more points, put more pressure on teams, and it’s just great. It’s great for team building, it’s great to be with the guys. The offseason started with the NFLPA and their program, we issued a statement, but a few days later we got together and said: Look, the other teams work, we’re at a disadvantage if we don’t. Let’s go in there and get to work. What’s the reason?
