The Palme d’Or went to the French film “Titane”, directed by Alice Rohrwacher, who is also known for “La Tête Haute” (2011) and “Lanfeust” (2012). The Cannes Cinema Festival, which takes place every year in France and brings together film fans and celebrities, lasted from July 6 to 17, 2021. On July 17, 2021, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Melanie Laurent, Tahar Rahim, and others, as well as the jury’s chairman, Spike Lee, revealed the long-awaited list of winners.
The winner of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival is “Titane,” a film by French filmmaker Julia Ducournau, according to the event’s website and official Twitter page. The film is about a little girl who is a serial murderer.

The film festival’s Grand Prix, the second most important competition award, awarded to two films: Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi’s “A Hero” and Finnish director Juho Kuosmanen’s “Compartment No.6.” Leos Carax, a Frenchman, won best director for his film “Annette,” starring Marion Cotillard and Adam Driver.
Caleb Landry Jones of the United States received Best Actor for his performance in Justin Kurzel’s Australian competition drama film “Nitram.”
Renate Reinsve, a Norwegian actress, received Best Actress for Joachim Trier’s film “The Worst Person in the World.” Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid and Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul split the Jury Prize for “Ahed’s Knee” and “Memoria,” respectively. “Drive My Car,” directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi, won the prize for best script.
The Un Certain Regard category’s winners
The second official Un Certain Regard competition included twenty films. There were four debuts among them: Valdimar Johannsson’s “Lamb,” Laura Wandel’s “Playground,” Teodora Ana Mihai’s “La Civil,” and Na Jiazuo’s “Gaey of Wa’r,” as well as the six films that competed for the Caméra d’Or.
“Unclenching The Fists,” directed by Kira Kovalenko, won the top award in this category. The Ensemble Prize went to Hafsia Herzi’s “The Good Mother” (“Bonne Mère”). The first film “La Civil,” directed by Teodora Ana Mihai, received the special award for bravery. The prize for innovation awarded to Valdimar Johannsson’s directorial debut, “Lamb.”
A Special Look was given to Tatiana Huezo’s film “Noche De Fuego” (“Prayers for the Stolen”) in the Special Mention category. Sebastian Meise’s film “Great Freedom” won the Jury Prize.

A renowned prize awarded to the finest documentary film shown at a film festival is the Golden Eye (L’il d’Or). The prize has been awarded since 2015 and is sponsored by the Cannes Film Festival. It was founded by the Civic Community of Multimedia Writers, which is led by Julie Bertuccelli.
For his documentary “Babi Yar. Context” about the Nazi murders of Jews in Kyiv during World War II, Ukrainian filmmaker Sergei Loznitsa won a special jury award, the Golden Eye, at the Cannes Film Festival this year. The documentary “Babi Yar. Context” had its world debut at the Cannes Film Festival on July 11 in a special screening session outside of the main competition.
During the event, Ilya Khrzhanovsky, artistic director of the Babi Yar Memorial Center, presented Loznitsa’s letter to the jury and the Festival and received the prize on his behalf. Loznitsa expressed his hope that the prize would help the picture reach a global audience.

This year is the 40th anniversary of Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner. To celebrate, I went to the cinema to see the new Blade Runner 2049 movie. The result was not what I expected.
