Sources close to the Green Bay Packers say that defensive end Jordan Love is expected to have a clean MRI on his injured shoulder and will be ready to return to the field this week. Love sprained his shoulder in the fourth quarter of last week’s game against the Chicago Bears, and got hurt while trying to defend Bears tight end Trey Burton. However, while the injury looked promising to return this week, the source says that the return may be delayed, which would mean that the Green Bay Packers may have to use another player as their backup quarterback.
After a shoulder injury ended Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ season, many wondered if the injury might have occurred before the injury. In a new report, a source close to the situation says that Love never had an MRI, which would have provided information on whether or not the injury occurred during the game. It is also said that there is a 50/50 chance that Love faces a long-term absence, which would keep him out until November.
The Green Bay Packers will have their most important player on the field this week as quarterback Aaron Rodgers will start in a crucial divisional showdown against the Chicago Bears. However, despite Rodgers’ return from a broken collarbone, the Packers may be without their backup, as they have been told that backup QB, Kyle…. GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN – The Green Bay Packers’ preseason opener on Saturday was intended to be merely the start of three weeks of preseason game snaps for quarterback Jordan Love, while Aaron Rodgers stood on the sidelines.
It’s possible that there won’t be as many pictures for Love now.
Despite the fact that an MRI on Love’s right shoulder came back negative, Packers coach Matt LaFleur indicated Sunday that Love’s availability for practice this week and Saturday’s preseason game against the New York Jets remains unclear.
“I think he’s doing fine,” LaFleur said. “It’s something, though, that is significant enough where he could miss a couple days of practice. We’ll see where he’s at at the end of the week, but we’re going to kind of take it day to day.”

On Wednesday and Thursday, the Jets will be in town for joint workouts. “Potentially, yes,” LaFleur said when asked whether Love might miss the game against the Jets.
After a sack-fumble late in the second quarter of the Packers’ preseason opener against the Houston Texans at Lambeau Field on Saturday, Love said he felt a tightness around his right arm and shoulder. To finish the first half, he played one more series, but every play was a run.
Love was supposed to play until the third quarter for the Packers, but LaFleur and the medical team decided to stop his night at halfway.
Love’s first NFL preseason game was against the Texans on Saturday; the 2020 preseason was canceled due to the COVID-19 epidemic. He last appeared in a game of any sort on Jan. 25, 2020, in the Senior Bowl, three months before the Packers selected him in the first round as a potential long-term successor for Rodgers. Love only got one first down in his other six series while leading one touchdown drive. He finished 12-of-17 for 122 yards, one touchdown, and one fumble loss for a 110.4 passer rating.
Throughout the offseason program, Love benefitted from Rodgers’ absence, but nothing can replace real game repetitions. “It’s extremely essential for Jordan to receive as many live repetitions as possible,” general manager Brian Gutekunst said this summer. Love played 28 snaps against the Texans, and if he misses the Jets game, the preseason finale against Buffalo on Aug. 28 will be Love’s last opportunity to play before the season start.
“He got a lot of work in the first half,” quarterbacks coach Luke Getsy said Sunday. “We were able to throw the ball a lot because they stepped up and challenged us with a lot of man coverage.”
Given that the Packers will not play Rodgers in any preseason games this summer and that they only have three quarterbacks on the roster (Kurt Benkert played the second half against the Texans), they may have to acquire a quarterback or two this week.
They had five quarterbacks on the roster at one time this summer, but Blake Bortles and Jake Dolegala were released before training camp. Both are readily accessible (Dolegala was signed and then released by the New England Patriots early in camp).
Bortles and Dolegala aren’t on the top of LaFleur’s emergency list, but he and Gutekunst have already explored alternatives.
