Damian Lillard made a mistake in the Portland Trail Blazers’ game against the LA Lakers on Wednesday. He threw a pass to LaMarcus Aldridge that was intercepted by James Worthy, leading to an easy layup for Kobe Bryant. It would have been just one more point and easily could’ve put this away for Portland.

Damian Lillard made a mistake in the final seconds of the game that could’ve cost Portland a win. The moment was not only costly for Damian, but also for his team’s playoff hopes. Read more in detail here: damian lillard trade warriors.

Damian Lillard's 'terrible' mistake that could've cost Portland a win

On Sunday, Damian Lillard was the driving factor behind a second-straight Portland Trail Blazers win. Believe it or not, the Blazers are a very different team when their superstar point guard is not only available to play, but also performs at the All-NBA level that has been his constant for the last half-decade.

Lillard followed up his season-high 43 points against the Charlotte Hornets on Friday with 32 points, five rebounds, and five assists in Portland’s tough road victory against the Memphis Grizzlies. He blasted out of the gate in the first quarter, scoring 17 points on only six field goal attempts, and his fingerprints were all over the Blazers’ offensive prowess late in the game.

With little over four minutes left, Lillard’s second four-point play of the game put Portland ahead three points. With 2:47 remaining in the game, he hit Norman Powell with a cross-court kickout for another go-ahead triple, then found Powell on the right wing for another show-go jumper that increased the Blazers’ advantage to four. Even if it wasn’t exactly Dame Time as Rip City has come to know it, Lillard’s effect was felt the most in the clutch on Sunday.

Lillard, on the other hand, couldn’t stop talking about the game-winning error he made in the last seconds, which gave the Grizzlies a last-second opportunity to win.

He remarked, “At the end, I had a poor play, fouling a 3-point shooter up four.” “That was a poor decision.” That was certainly one of my worst game-ending plays in recent memory.”

With little over 15 seconds remaining, the Grizzlies used a misdirection play to release Dillon Brooks, the game’s leading scorer with 37 points, for a fast 3-point attempt with Lillard shifted onto him. As Brooks raised to launch: Lillard fell behind the play almost immediately, causing him to furiously reverse direction and go for a long-armed contest.

Lillard contested the evident contact, alleging Brooks was the one who initiated it. Unsurprisingly, Chauncey Billups’ challenge was unsuccessful.

Brooks hit all three of his free throws, giving Memphis a chance to tie the game again. On the Grizzlies’ next possession, though, Desmond Bane was unable to hit from deep, and Nassir Little, as usual, came out of nowhere for a soaring defensive rebound that put him to the line at the other end, securing Portland’s win.

The Blazers should be happy with any victory these days, particularly one on the road against a club that has won 10 of their previous 11 games. Despite intending to foul Bane before he let go with the game-tying 3-pointer from 3-land, Portland left Memphis with a victory, just as it did after Lillard’s error.

Isn’t there any damage in that? Not exactly, according to Lillard, particularly given the Blazers’ own self-inflicted faults in allowing the Hornets to make Friday’s game competitive late.

“But, like last night, I think we made it a little more difficult than it needed to be at times,” Lillard said. “It’s all part of the process of developing, and growing in those times.” This is a new group. We’ve added a lot of new men, so we’ll have to get used to each other in certain scenarios. But we survived the storm and finished the job.”

Ideally, the Portland Trail Blazers will not be forced to make up for late-game blunders against the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday. However, if same hardships and tribulations occur again, the Blazers will know for certain that they have the ability to triumph.
