For the third time in WWE history, the first male entrant to the Royal Rumble has won the Rumble. Edge joined Sean Michaels and Chris Benoit as the only ones to accomplish this feat, which took over 58 minutes. As announced the day before in the WWE Outpost on FS1, Edge and Randy Orton started the match as the top two contenders. They bickered before Orton could even get in the ring, and Edge finally put it on the commentary table and countered the RKO with an Edgecution. Orton was helped after limping from a leg injury.

In the third half, Mustafa Ali continued his rivalry with New Day by knocking out Xavier Woods. This Big E was all over the place, and he quickly threw Ali out of the ring with one hand.

Rapper Bad Bunny (who performed his single Booker T earlier in the evening) played a small part in the match. When Miz arrived, he decided to attack DJ Bunny. This caused the rapper to step into the ring and Damian Priest to use a distraction to take out both The Miz and Morrison. Bunny then climbed the top rope and hit a Splash on two heels.

Midway through the match, a surprise Team Hell No reunion took place between Daniel Bryan and Kane. The two kissed, but then Kane strangled his old partner.

Former world champion Christian made a surprising comeback during the match. He helped Bobby Lashley out of the fight and then kissed Edge.

Omos ended up playing a big role in the match by taking out Big E and Rey Mysterio from outside the ring. He couldn’t prevent Styles from being knocked out at the end of the fight.
Seth Rollins returns to WWE programming and comes in at 29. In the end, he took out Daniel Bryan, the favorite to win the fight. The final four (technically five minus Orton’s absence) were Rollins, Brown Strowman, Edge and Christian.
In the final scene, Edge and Rollins were (apparently) the last two standing. Edge dodged a Curb Stomp to knock Rollins out, but then pounced on a returning RKO from Orton. He managed to parry Orton’s Irish Whip at the last minute to win the match.
