The Dallas Mavericks set an NBA goal record by sending the Los Angeles Clippers 50 points ahead in the break on Sunday and won 124-73. Yes, Kawhi Leonard gave up, but even someone with his talent couldn’t help the Clippers, who had failed in the 77-27 break.

The Clippers entered the game 2-0 and the Mavericks 0-2, but it didn’t take long to realize that Dallas wouldn’t be winless anymore and that Los Angeles wouldn’t remain unbeaten for long. Dallas took a 23-3 lead in the first quarter and went 25-5 with 3:23 before the Mavs started a race.

The lead was 36-13 at the end of the first quarter and reached 40 points at 56-16 7:35 in the second quarter. With 23,5 seconds to go Trey Burke could score three points to reach the 77-27.

How did the Mavericks do? It is not surprising that they have dominated all phases. Dallas reached 29 to 50 (58%) on the field, while the Clippers only reached 9 to 37 (24.3%). Behind the 3-point arch the Mavs reached 9 out of 20 (45%), while LA was a miserable 1 out of 19 (5.3%). According to ESPN Stats & Information, this is the worst 3-point percentage of Clippers in the last 25 years.

More figures from the first half:

Bruises: Mavs 32, Clippers 16
Assist : Mavs 16, Clippers 3
is flying: Mavs 6, Clippers 0
quick-release points : Mavs 20, Scissors 2
points in the paint : Mavs 34, Clippers 10

Only four Clippers scored 13 points in the first half, led by Paul George (4 out of 12 on the field, 0 out of 6 out of 3). Luka Doncic of Dallas finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists. It was more help than the Clippers had as a team. Doncic and Josh Richardson scored 33 points in the first half, six more than the Clips.

And of course the social media world had its say in the debacle, because other NBA players felt the pain of the Clippers as well:

No, it’s wild.

Even NFL Sunday couldn’t save the Clippers from embarrassment after their awful performance:

I happened to turn away from the soccer games and thought I saw something. The Mavericks lead 77-27 on the Clippers at halftime…. pic.twitter.com/pMXPYb4yV8.

I’ve never seen anything like it in the NBA, and the Clippers are home!

Man, Kawhi must be the best player in the world if he has that kind of impact on the Clippers…. that kind of impact on the Clippers. Fifty and a half! Jesus Christ

The Clippers opened the second period 11-0, but the Mavericks took a 57-point lead and Dallas brought the worst defeat in their unglamorous franchise history. Dallas has the lead in the 31:11 final with at least 40 points. According to ESPN’s statistics and information, this is the longest lifespan a team has achieved in the last 25 seasons.
