The Detroit Lions are on the lookout for pass rush assistance for the 2021 season, and they’re searching everywhere on the roster. Julian Okwara, who played against the Buffalo Bills on Friday night, made a huge statement in this regard.
Okwara made an impression in his first game in 2021, and he got off to the type of start that may help him make a case for a larger role with the club this season.

After an injury-plagued rookie season, Okwara was given plenty of playing time in the preseason opener, staying in for the most of the night. He didn’t disappoint when he was on the field, racking up 5 pressures and 18 pass rushing plays, according to a tweet from Pro Football Focus.
Okwara also had two sacks on the night, and it was a solid effort from the edge rusher that showed what type of player he can be for the Lions with more seasoning and experience.
Okwara’s dominance on defense was probably the greatest story of the night, and it was a fantastic statement made by the young player about his squad inclusion.

In terms of his personal response to the event, Okwara said he was simply glad to go back on the field and show the squad what he can do, considering that he had a difficult start to his career in 2020 due to injury and other factors.

“It was great to get out there and meet some fans, as well as gain some more experience. Last year, I was injured and had other misfortunes. It doesn’t matter how much experience you have, the most important thing is that you have it. “Getting in game form and being able to execute was the most important thing, regardless of how many repetitions there were,” Okwara said after the game.
While the Lions were unable to win the game, Okwara was able to shake off some rust and play well, which bodes well for his confidence as the preseason progresses.
