Doctor Who Superfans have chosen their favourites for the 14th episode of Doctor Who. Doctor reveals when it’s time for Jodie Whittaker to retire.

One of the most exciting parts of Doctor Who fandom – perhaps only surpassed by James Bond – is the speculation about the next person who will step into the role.

So far we’ve had 13 great Doctors (not counting John Hurt’s Military Doctor and Joe Martin’s Runaway Doctor), but things got even more exciting when Jodie was chosen as the first actress for the role.

Nothing has been confirmed yet, but it looks like Jodie will be back after season 13. The season is about to end. This will be his third release in the role, as there have been no actors for a fourth season since the sci-fi film returned to screens in 2005.

If she does, the stage is set for a new Time Lord. Metro.co.uk spoke to a few superfans to find out about their dream cast.

Tom Ellis

Superfan Lily holds the Guinness World Record for the largest collection of Doctor Who memorabilia. According to the GWR website, there are 6,641 Who’s Who.

I would love to see Tom Ellis or Benedict Cumberbatch, both of whom would make excellent black doctors and add some dry humor to the show, she noted.

Benedict would resemble William Hartnell but on the funny side, while Tom would be a natural cross between David Tennant and Matt Smith. My third choice would be Doc Martin Clunes.

Although Tom and Benedict are known for their other roles (Lucifer and Sherlock), that doesn’t exclude them – after all, Jodie was known for her role in Broadchurch before she got the Doctor Who job.

Joe Martin

Molly hosts the Yoyo Galactic podcast, where Doctor Who fans share their unpopular opinions.

My first choice for doctor would be Joe Martin. She was incredible in Episode 12, and I think she deserves a full role in that episode, she said.

What about his reinforcements? Maxine Peake, Natasha Lyonne, T’Nia Miller, Indira Varma and Sophie Okonedo, she winked, before adding : And my dream has long been Olivia Colman, but now that she’s an Oscar winning actress, I doubt it’s possible.

Jo became very popular with her fans after she made a shocking appearance in the series 12. There seems to be no obvious reason for the actress not to return after she was the second woman and first person of color in the role.

Richard Ayoade

Scott runs the Doctor Who page, which he says has over 27,000 followers on Facebook.

I’d love to see Richard Ayoade play the Doctor if Jodie Whittaker gets out of the role, he said. I feel like he has the right amount of weirdness to play the character.

In fact, Richard is the first wish of many fans. In a poll conducted by Metro.co.uk, he was voted favourite, ahead of I May Destroy You star Michaela Coel and current bookmakers favourite Chris Marshall.

Tandy Newton

George runs a YouTube account dedicated to Doctor Who, which has over 22,000 fans,

If Jody is about to leave, I think the Doctor’s role is better suited for someone like Thandie Newton, he explained. The stunningly older Doctor Who recently proved in Westworld that she has the acting skills to really grab your attention.

However, given his involvement in the HBO series, I would love to see T’Nia Miller, who recently proved his talent in The Haunting of Bly Manor, or even Dev Patel, who recently played the lead character in the personal story of David Copperfield.

Tandy is an interesting choice – she’s a science fiction veteran after her role in Westworld and may be ready for a new challenge in the future.

John Gruffudd

Haider has a doctorwhumour fan account on Instagram, with over 17,000 fans.

My choice for the 14th. The incarnation of the Doctor would be John Grufford in the first place, I think he could have the spark the Doctor needs now. I think he has the perfect elements to play a charismatic character.

My second choice would be Tilda Swinton, who brings in this eccentric element in many of her roles that is very recognizable and unplayable. She’s also able to bring that dark but reassuring element of the Doctor that we’ve never seen before.

My third choice would be Michael Sheen – I mean, isn’t there love in that? Having seen him in Good Omens, the character he plays has many similarities to the Doctor, and I think Michael could introduce a new kind of eccentric and funny Doctor.

Ioan is known for his roles in the films Liar and Fantastic Four.

Billy Nighy

Not only do superfans participate in the guessing game, but also those directly involved in the world of Doctor Who. Gareth David-Lloyd played the role of Ianto Jones in Torchwood and revealed his choice during a recent catch-up.

I’ve always liked Bill Nighy [for the job], he revealed. I think he’d be great.

Imelda Staunton, I think would be great. And Tilda Swinton – I think she would be fantastic too.

Doctor Who is available for streaming on iPlayer.
