Today is the one year anniversary of the assassination of the Tiger King: Murder, mayhem and madness have entered our lives and changed them forever.
The Netflix documentary was an instant hit and quickly broke streaming records as the whole world couldn’t stand Joe Exotic’s eye, rivalry with Carol Baskin and all.
From Exotica clips to his presidential campaign to Carol’s murder plot, the show has seen it all.
But what has happened since the Tiger King conquered the world?
Joe Exotica
Joe Exotic was locked up before the Netflix saga came out last year. So it’s no surprise that he hasn’t seen the series.
A former animal control officer is currently serving a 22-year prison sentence for animal cruelty and the murder of a Federal Medical Center (FMC) employee in Texas.

Exotica was kept in isolation for four months during the first half of the coronavirus pandemic. Now his lawyer fears for his health and says he is being denied medical treatment.
His team made desperate attempts to get him pardoned by outgoing President Donald Trump in January, and there was even a limousine ready to take him to the hairdresser, but the exotic didn’t make the list.
Carol Baskin
Carol Baskin took the internet by storm after the release of Tiger King, thanks to a wild conspiracy that she killed her husband Don Lewis and fed him to the tigers – an accusation she strongly denies.
The founder of Big Cat Rescue went viral again in July after she was cruelly tricked into sending a birthday message to paedophiles Rolf Harris and Jimmy Savile, making her feel guilty.
After that dramatic cameo, she appeared on Dancing with the Stars alongside host Nev Schulman and rapper Nelly and performed her first song in Eye of the Tiger. A revolutionary move if ever we saw one.
In the first episode, the family of Carol’s ex-husband posted an ad asking for information about his disappearance.

But the animal rights activist didn’t last long in the race and became the second celebrity to vote for him after former NBA star Charles Oakley.
Carol recently told Metro.co.uk that she was considering not reopening her Big Cat Rescue sanctuary to the public because she feared a madman might try to poison one of the tigers.
She also admitted that she was tired of talking about Tiger King…..
Dillon Passage
Exotica’s husband, Dillon Passage, has been on a roll since the release of Tiger King and has even struck up an unlikely friendship with Castle Too Hot to Handle.
Earlier this month, the man who runs Exotic’s Twitter account accused Dillon of using him for fame and money and not answering his phone calls.
He wrote: That money destroyed my whole family. I won’t let him kill my soul. You win, Dillon, Jeff Duncan, Carol.
Join us for Travis’ birthday party on the 22nd. March. I will keep the promise he made on the day he died. I don’t need fame, money or police, you can have it all.
It’s sad when in prison you still have nothing in your head and you can’t even answer the phone. I can see where I stand.
Dillon has long defended himself on social media.
Joe is clearly struggling in prison, and I don’t think any of us can blame him, he wrote. I never spoke ill of Joe, in his ups and downs, in his good times and bad.
I see through it, I recognize and understand what it is: A man in prison is just trying to do his best.
The presidential pardon we were all waiting for never came, and our hopes were dashed. I still support Joe and want to be there for him.
Antilok
Doc Antle, a safari owner in Myrtle Beach, criticized Netflix for the way he was portrayed after the release of Tiger King.
He has since been charged by the Virginia Attorney General’s Office in October with illegal wildlife trafficking.
The unit has launched a months-long investigation into the owner of a safari business in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and released the charges in a statement.
The 60-year-old Netflix star was charged with one count of trafficking in wildlife, one count of conspiracy to traffic in wildlife and 13 counts of animal cruelty and violation of the Endangered Species Act.
Jeff Lowe
In 2016 Jeff Lowe took over the Exotica Zoo, but unfortunately it closed for good in August when Jeff lost his license.
The closure comes two months after Jeff was given 120 days to vacate the property after a court ruling awarded the zoo to competitor Exotica Carola.
In January, the US government accused him of animal cruelty. The Justice Department accused him of repeated inhumane treatment and mistreatment of tigers and lions.
Although he has not yet commented, he has already accused the government of making false allegations against him.
Rick Kirkham
After Joel McHale said during the Tiger King special that he didn’t think Exotic would get out of prison alive, TV producer Rick Kirkham slipped under the radar.
Right after the Netflix series was released, he made a series of accusations about life at the GW Zoo, including being shot three times by exotics.
Asked if there was ever a time when he was scared, Rick told Metro.co.uk: Oh, many times. It wasn’t just with Joe. There was this one time… The first time he shot me, I had no idea. All I heard was a loud bang and it scared the hell out of me.

I turned around and his gun was still smoking. He shot me in the legs and laughed his ass off. I scared you to death, ha ha ha, next time I’ll stab myself between the eyes. Don’t fuck with me.
I’ve seen him shoot several animals just because he was blown away. He had 12 acres in that park that he was God.
Package for package
Since the series, the Saffery Zoo has kept a relatively low profile, by its own admission after 10 years with Joe Exotic.
Last August, Saff told Metro.co.uk that he was sorry he hadn’t been able to prevent much.
I was involved in the care of the children, he said. Shit, I was one of the main people responsible for interacting with the cube, and looking back on it now, I’m not sure I really thought about how it would affect the cube.
Saff continued to speak: I thought I would share the world and let people know what I do and why I do it.
He added: Like I said, I was selfish. All I wanted was to be able to work with these animals.
The Saffa love and live with their partner and children.
John Finlay
Former exotic partner John Finlay has been given new teeth as a result of Tiger King’s transformation.
Since his appearance on the show, he has kept a relatively low profile, but his fans kept him in the loop on Instagram, where they revealed that he underwent shoulder surgery in June.
John is also loved and living life to the fullest.
I am in love with my beautiful fiancé, I have beautiful dogs, horses and chickens, and I have incredibly supportive friends and family who love me just the way I am, he wrote in a recent post.
It took me a long time to realize that I deserve love, but more importantly, that I deserve love.
