I’m sorry, but I couldn’t help myself. This is my favorite episode in the “What if…?” series. To me, it’s the most fun I’ve had making this show. I loved writing John’s letter, and it turned out that I could write an entire blog post about it.

Episode 4 of the 4th season of “What if? Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions” that takes place on Easter Sunday. In the episode, the gang travels to the past and their past selves tell them about the Easter eggs and references in the episode. They also receive a DVD for their Easter Eggs and References.

In the final episode of the third season of “What if…?”, the episode’s title, “What if… The South Won the Civil War?”, is a famous quote from a 19th century British orator William Lowndes Yeatman. It was first uttered at the Oxford Union, a debating society for students of the University of Oxford, on March 2, 1849.. Dr. Strange in the Madness Multiverse? In the Multiverse of Sadness, it’s more like Dr. Strange, right? What if…? episode 4 from Marvel Studios is by far the most screwed up and gloomy What if…? episode yet. That said, the episode, like the others before it, is chock-full of fantastic Easter Eggs. Let’s take a look at them one by one.

There are major show spoilers ahead.

What happens if…? Easter Eggs and References (Episode 4)

“What If… Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead of His Hands?” stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Rachel McAdams as Dr. Stephen Strange and Christine Palmer, respectively. Instead of losing his hands, Dr. Strange loses the love of his life in this episode. He attempts again and over to reverse her death, which eventually leads to the complete collapse of his world.

The What if…? twist on Dr. Strange’s origin was incredible, but it also demonstrated how one decision, one change, can have a tremendous effect on your life and the world around you. Let’s go through all the amazing easter eggs you may have missed in the episode now that the recap is done:

1. A long-forgotten reporter reappears.

Christine Everhart, played by Leslie Bibb in Iron Man and Iron Man 2, is the newscaster when Stephen hears of Christine’s death on the news. She is a reporter for WHiH World News.

2. Absolute Time Points

This is a fascinating topic. Christine’s death, according to the Ancient One, represents a “absolute moment in time,” which is crucial for future MCU initiatives. This implies that some occurrences, even in other timelines, cannot be altered. It’s possible that this is why Spider-Man runs into problems with the multiverse in No Way Home, since his identity may be an absolute moment in time.

The Librarian (#3)

O’Bengh, who is protecting the Cagliostro Library, is a Marvel comics character who is really Cagliostro. He even looked into the Darkhold, which is the book Wanda possesses now that she has recovered from WandaVision.

4. Bro, tenta-cool reference

The first thing Stephen meets while attempting to acquire ultimate power is a tentacle monster that seems to be similar to, if not identical to, the tentacle monster seen by Captain Carter in the first episode of What if…? Many people believe Shuma-Gorath is the monster in question. In the comics, a legendary one-eyed, multiversal tentacle monster often fights with Doctor Strange.

5. Who’s here to haggle?

Following Stephen’s injury from the tentacle monster, O’Bengh informs him that “mystic creatures do not deal,” a reference to Stephen’s attempt to bargain with Dormammu in Doctor Strange.

Strange is given a magical facial protection.

Wong casts “The Guardian Vishanti,” a “heavy-duty protective spell” on Stephen. The Vishanti are a trio of creatures that assist the Sorcerer Supreme in the comics.

7. The Cyttorak Crimson Bands

When battling his evil side, Stephen utilizes a mystical lasso spell, which he later utilized against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.

8. The color red represents chaos.

Evil Strange’s magic changes from green to crimson as he consumes Stephen. Red is generally associated with Chaos Magic in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is what The Scarlet Witch uses.

9. “What did you do, Stephen?”

When Christine vanishes towards the conclusion of the episode, it echoes the moment in which Vision vanished during the WandaVision series finale. Strange, like Wanda, goes through the five stages of grieving — denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance — throughout the episode. Wanda and Stephen both manipulate timelines and create other worlds in attempt to rescue the one person they care about most.

No, says the Watcher.

Dr. Strange begs The Watcher for assistance in order to repair all of the havoc and devastation created by his greed. The Watcher then replies by declining him, emphasizing the fact that all he does is watch and that is all he does. This is also the first time a character from What If…? interacts with the god-like entity.

So there you have it, the best of the best. What happens if…? Easter Eggs in Episode 4 Despite the fact that this was a pretty gloomy episode, it’s encouraging to see Marvel and Disney+ not be hesitant to offer viewers the darker side of their beloved characters. Maybe the next episode will be a bit lighter, but if it’s as gloomy as this one, we won’t complain. Make it more more sinister by having Thanos win Endgame by killing everyone with his Double-Edged sword.
