In an effort to reduce Zack Snyder’s Justice League from four hours to less than two, director Joss Whedon has removed a number of colorful characters from the film and significantly shortened a number of other roles. Now that Zack Snyder’s Justice League movie is out, fans have noticed – but the film’s star, Ray Fisher, said today that he blames institutional forces at Warner Bros. and not just Whedon for what ended up being a less inclusive film. Roles that were dropped or significantly shortened in the final film include Ryan Choi, a Korean-American comic book hero and STAR Labs employee; a waitress whose story intersects with Victor Stone from Fisher’s film… and Stone himself.
Fisher’s repeated accusations of mismanagement by Warner Bros. came to light when he told fans that Whedon behaved abusively and unprofessionally on the set of Justice League. The Avengers director is expected to replace Snyder, who left the film after the death of his daughter in early 2017 amid disputes with Warner Bros. Snyder Catch Justice League is dedicated to this girl.
The racist and discriminatory comments of Toby Emmerich, Jeff Jones and John Berg are a major factor in this disparity, Fisher said on Twitter. I may not like Joss Whedon, but I refuse to hold him solely responsible.
These executives, as well as current DC Films head Walter Hamada, are regular targets of Fisher’s ire. Reading between the lines, it seems that he feels that Whedon has been scapegoated for institutional misconduct in order to protect himself from the consequences. Representatives from Warner Bros. have regularly feuded with Fisher over his public statements about not only the situation on set, but also the ethics investigation that took place after he made his initial statements about Whedon public.
In recent months, other former actors involved in Whedon’s projects – including the charismatic vampire slayer Buffy – have joined Fisher’s claims, saying that they faced similar abuse while working with the director.
In Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) is determined to get the ultimate sacrifice from Superman (Henry Cavill). He teams up with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) and seeks to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from a threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their past to overcome what holds them back, so they can unite and form an unprecedented league of heroes. Now reunited, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and the Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSad and Darkseid and their terrible intentions.
