Several NHL teams are investigating the possibility of holding a few home games in 2020-21 outdoors and in front of the fans if local KOVID-19 restrictions on mass-training camps allow it, sources told ESPN Thursday.

The Boston Bruins have confirmed that they are studying home games in Fenway Park, which has hosted NHL and NCAA games in the past.

We are in constant contact with the NHL and Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Boston officials and are investigating all possible locations for next season —–, including Fenway Park. We’re currently in the reconnaissance phase, says a statement from the team.

The Kings of Los Angeles held internal discussions about the organization of home games in Dignity Health Sports Park, home of the Los Angeles Major League football galaxy. The Anschutz Entertainment Group owns the football teams and the football stadium. These discussions were reported to the NHL a few months ago.

California was one of the most restrictive states in its response to COVID-19. The 49 boys in the NFL San Francisco recently relocated their football activities to Arizona due to stricter restrictions, for example in Santa Clara County.

Based on these trends, the Kings have expressed concern that the team could be one of the last with fans in the home games of the Staples Center. Building and maintaining an NHL outdoor track for home games – in spring in Southern California – would be an expensive undertaking. To defuse the situation, the Kings approached the Anaheim Ducks with a proposal for a possible partnership in which the two teams could play home games away from home at Dignity Sports Park, an NHL source said.

As Sportsnet first reports, the Bruins, Kings, Ducks and Pittsburgh Penguins are among the teams that have told the NHL that they are investigating the outdoor games. Athletics has discovered that the Carolina Hurricanes, Dallas Stars and Nashville Predators are among the teams that have also shown their interest in the NHL in numerous outdoor games.

Although the Minnesota Winter Classic has been postponed, a game is still scheduled for the 2020-21 season at the North Carolina State Football Stadium. NHL sources point out that these are not lapidary ideas for generating revenue and playing for the fans, but concrete plans for the 2020-21 season. They also stated that, in addition to costs, the league’s main concern for teams that play multiple games outside is to destroy the novelty of the winter classics and the stadium series, which still gather crowds in football and baseball stadiums each season to play hockey games.

The 2020-21 NHL season continues.
